  8.                     Introduction

  10.                          This section explains how to order PC
  11.                          hardware and software to run HP Network
  12.                          Services 2.1/MS-DOS (D1811B) and HP Network
  13.                          Services 2.1/MS-DOS for NetWare (D1819A).
  14.  
  15.                          HP Network Services 2.1/MS-DOS and HP Network
  16.                          Services 2.1/MS-DOS for NetWare products
  17.                          provide Network Services for DOS clients.
  18.                          Network Services includes the following
  19.                          functionality:
  20.  
  21.                               * Terminal Access to an HP 3000 (VT)
  22.  
  23.                               * Network File Transfer (NFT)
  24.  
  25.                               * The ability to run NetIPC applications
  26.                                 like HP NewWave Office Applications
  27.  
  28.                               * The ability to run Berkeley Sockets
  29.                                 applications.
  30.  
  31.                          HP Network Services 2.1/MS-DOS provides these
  32.                          services for LAN Manager Clients or
  33.                          standalone users.  HP Network Services
  34.                          2.1/MS-DOS for NetWare provides these
  35.                          services on a NetWare Client PC without
  36.                          having to reboot.  Both products support the
  37.                          DOS environment as well as the new Windows
  38.                          3.0 and HP NewWave 3.0 environments in all
  39.                          three modes.

  41.                          HP Network Services 2.1/MS-DOS (D1811B) is
  42.                          compatible with HP LAN Manager for OS/2 and
  43.  
  44.  
  45.                          MS-DOS, MicroSoft LAN Manager 2.1 and with HP
  46.                          LAN Manager/X.
  47.  
  48.                          There is no HP Network Services 2.1 support
  49.                          for OS/2 clients at this time.

  122.                     DOS Clients running HP Network Services 2.1 or HP
  123.                     Network Services 2.1 for NetWare only (standalone)
  124.  
  125.                          HP recommends that DOS clients have 640 KB of
  126.                          memory.  This allows users to load DOS, the
  127.                          networking software and to run most
  128.                          applications.  Less than 640 KB of memory
  129.                          will not leave enough memory for most popular
  130.                          applications.
  131.  
  132.                     DOS Clients running HP Network Services 2.1 or HP
  133.                     Network Services 2.1 for NetWare and HP LAN
  134.                     Manager
  135.  
  136.                          HP recommends that DOS clients running HP LAN
  137.                          Manager 1.1 and HP Network Services 2.1
  138.                          services have a minimum of 640KB of memory.
  139.                          The 640KB memory limit may be pressed when
  140.                          using certain applications (such as HP
  141.                          NewWave Office applications and Advancelink
  142.                          with graphics).  Customers who want to run
  143.                          these kinds of large applications can do the
  144.                          following:
  145.  
  146.                               * use EMS memory
  147.  
  148.  
  149.                               * use the Demand Load feature to make
  150.                                 the HP Network Services 2.1 services
  151.                                 transient.  (note:  The Demand Load
  152.                                 feature is not supported in Windows
  153.                                 3.0 enhanced mode).
  154.  
  155.                          For DOS clients with 1MB or more of memory,
  156.                          3rd party memory managers may be used to free
  157.                          even more conventional (0-640 KB) memory for
  158.                          applications.

  160.                     Terminal Emulators Supported

  162.                          Users must also have terminal emulation
  163.                          software.  They may choose from the following
